“Carbon steel”
When the fiber laser cutting machine uses oxygen as the processing gas, the cutting edge will be slightly oxidized. When the thickness reaches 4mm, nitrogen can be used as a processing gas for high pressure cutting. In this case, the cutting edge will not be oxidized. If the thickness of the plate is greater than 10 mm, special plates can be used for lasering with a steel plate laser cutting machine and the surface of the workpiece can be oiled during the process for better results.
“Stainless steel”
Stainless steel is the most widely used in all industries. When cutting stainless steel with a fiber laser cutter, the edges obtained with nitrogen are not oxidized, while burrs are not affected by edge oxidation. Applying an oil film on the plate surface will give better perforation results without reducing the quality of the process.
“Aluminum”
For fiber laser cutting machines, despite its high reflectivity and thermal conductivity, it is possible to cut aluminum with a thickness of less than 6 mm, depending on the type of alloy and the laser capacity. When cutting with oxygen, the cutting surface is rough and hard. When nitrogen is used, the cutting surface is smooth. Pure aluminum is difficult to cut due to its high purity. Cutting is possible only when “reflection-absorption” equipment is mounted on the fiber laser cutting system. Otherwise, reflections can damage the optical components.
Fiber laser cutting machines belong to the category of metal cutting machines and therefore can only be used to process metals and not non-metallic materials such as stone, fabric, leather and other materials. The reason for this is that the wavelength range of a fiber laser cutter is no longer within the absorption range of such materials or is not suitable for absorption to achieve the desired results.
Secondly, fiber laser cutting machine can not cut density board. Fiber laser cutting machine is a thermal process. Cutting density board will cause combustion, and thus the cutting edge will burn and cannot meet the cutting requirements. Although these types of materials can be cut with a fiber laser cutter, some of the reflected energy can burn out protective mirrors, which also needs to be taken care of since the wavelengths used for laser light in these materials are not in the ideal absorption range for these materials.
